The Courses
The Vale offers two world class courses, both set in 600 acres of rolling countryside that once formed part of Hensol Castle.
The Lake Course - stretches to an intimidating 6700 yards and is a wonderful test of golf. This course has already played host to three Welsh PGA Championships. The course is aptly named, with water coming into play on 11 holes, including the daunting 12th where the green is on an island!
The Wales National - completed in 2003, this par 73 course is set to become one of the top inland courses in the country. This 7414 yards parkland course features all greens being constructed to USGA standards with water being a predominant feature. The course offers a mixture of mature wooded areas, wide and narrow fairways and vast water and bunker features. This is all set within local beautiful Welsh countryside, amongst an abundance of wildlife including badgers, swans, rabbits and hawks. Golf World magazine rates its 16th hole as one of the top 10 par 4s in the UK, whilst the 2nd hole is the longest par 5 in Wales.
The Accommodation
The location of The Vale Hotel, Golf & Spa Resort is luxury itself. Nestled in over 600 acres of beautiful countryside, it is difficult to imagine that you are only minutes from the M4 motorway and less than 20 minutes from Cardiff itself. The Resort was once part of the estate of Hensol Castle (which has recently become one of the many facilities available for conferences and weddings at The Vale), a stately home built originally in the mid 17th century. The views of the castle and lake from certain parts of The Lakes Course are considered among the best in the area. Every aspect of the Resort has been designed to maximise comfort and convenience, the majority of the 143 bedrooms affording superb views of the golf course or surrounding countryside. The leisure and sports facilities are by far the best in Wales - with a state of the art gymnasium, luxury 20m indoor pool, fitness studios, squash and tennis courts, sauna, steamroom and a whirlpool bath. In addition to all this, The Vale Spa (the largest in Wales) offers individual therapies, including holistic, therapeutic and beauty treatments, as well as special programmes providing guests with the ultimate in Spa treatments.
